The Novice by Taran Matharu is about a young boy named Fletcher. Fletcher is an orphan. He was abandoned at the city of Pelt's gates in the winter without a single item of clothing or even a blanket.
By contrast, the northern portion is one large desert region and incorporates only one city, Las Venturas (Las Vegas). Both landmasses feature additional rural settlements, which are less inhabited than the three major cities. The cities are connected by a train track system, and each one features an airport, which can be used to fast travel from a city to another. At the beginning of the game, players only have access to Los Santos, with the rest of the map being gradually unlocked as the story progresses.
Well, this was totally awesome. I went into The Novice with modest expectations. Recently I found myself disappointed with the YA High Fantasy genre and never really felt satisfied especially when it comes to the world building which always felt lacklustre. Not so with this one.
Overall, I think this is a good start, but I needed something to keep me glued to the pages and the biggest thing that was lacking was a major story-line. Hopefully things will be answered in the next book if I'm still interested in it, I might still pick it up.
Overall I like the author's writing style. It's not perfect, but it blends very well so that it doesn't hinder the reading.
Seemed like a mix of Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings. Just certain things reminded me of those books and that just makes it all the better :)

has. And there are many. First off, the physics of the game are so bad it's almost unplayable at times, especially click here early on. For example, your character seems to do a lot more damage with his fists than with the 9mm Beretta he steals from an unconscious cop; I beat down a gangbanger with a few well placed punches and kicks, but when I tried to put the hurt down on one of his buddies with my pistol, I emptied a clip right in to him and did fairly little damage. That's some screwed up physics there.
There is so much more to come in the next book I really was gutted I didn't have the next one especially with the cliffhanger. I highly recommend this title and hope if you give it a chance you like it as much as I do. ...more flag 29 likes · Like
